HIGH PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW

High Performance (HP) is more than a name or label, it implies working at the top of the development pyramid, the best of the best and determining what is necessary to improve their athletic ability. Some of it is the quest for marginal gains, but it is also taking care of the first 98% – the basics and reinforcing them daily. Sports Science is a major part of the High Performance picture but it is not the driver. True High Performance programs are strongly athlete-centered, coach-driven and administratively supported. It is not fancy facilities nor high-tech bells and whistles; it is minute by minute attention to detail to meet the athlete’s needs. Essentially it is coaching the best to be better.

The HP programs are advanced training programs designed to serve the athlete that has progressed beyond the general needs of the NextGen department.

HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETE

All collegiate, elite and professional athletes who are preparing to compete in sport or competition are eligible for the High Performance program. These athletes are local, national and internationally based athletes with a commitment to understanding what their unique athletic abilities are. These athletes are eager to learn what training strategies can be utilized to enhance their current athletic abilities.

ADVANCED ATHLETE ASSESSMENT

This program is available year-round to any athlete 18+ in any sport.

  • 18 total sessions, 3 sessions per week

  • Functional Movement Screen – used to identify previous injury history and assess athlete’s quality of movement (Y-Balance/FMS).
  • Performance Evaluation – pre and post evaluation to measure performance improvements (1st and last week)

Goal Setting Consultation:

  • Initial performance consultation
  • Goals are extracted by the movement specialist
  • Within the first week of training, after his/her performance evaluation
  • Performance evaluation specialist will gather the athlete’s goals after initial evaluation consultation

Athlete Evaluation:

Structural evaluation (Physical Therapy Screen)

  • Done prior to the commencement of the initial training session
  • Initial structural and performance evaluation
  • Evaluation is done during the first week of training

Functional evaluation (Functional Movement Screen)

  • Done prior to the commencement of the initial training session
  • FMS Screening
  • Y balance screening
  • Personalized Body Armour Program within 7 days of initial structural evaluation

Performance evaluation

  • Done on the first week of training during the Wednesday performance testing block
  • Performance monitoring built in to programming

Body Composition Assessment:
Body Composition Assessment during the initial athlete evaluation. This will be captured on a consistent cadence of monitoring.

  • BodiTrax – Monday and Friday before training
  • Includes: body fat%
  • Lean skeletal muscle mass
  • Hydration status
  • Weekly monitoring on all of the above

Performance Output Document:
Pre and post-performance output document which consists of body composition, lower body power, acceleration speed, agility and stamina.

Document will be sent to athlete via email within a 7-day period of evaluation completion by the movement coach.

Recovery/Regeneration Modalities:
The athlete receives access to the following recovery modalities before and/or after a training session:

GO! PROGRAM (6-8 YEARS)

Initiation phase. Designed to introduce the youngest of athletes to all areas of athletic development in a fun & positive training environment. This will allow them to achieve a “head start” in their athletic development journey.

Focus:

Focuses on increasing fundamental movement skill development in a guided structured play environment. With the focus of developing speed, agility, rhythm and reaction. This program sets athletes up for a solid athletic foundation and establishes the building blocks of all the vital components of athleticism, resulting in a better path to superior athleticism for all sports.

LEARN TO TRAIN (LT) (9-11 YEARS)

Foundation phase. Designed to introduce young athletes to all areas of athletic development in a fun & positive training environment.

Focus:

Focuses on increasing movement awareness, coordination, speed and agility with a training emphasis in “Skill” (Kinesthetic differentiation/movement adequacy, balance/spatial orientation and rhythm & reaction). This program sets athletes up for a solid athletic foundation and establishes the building blocks of all the vital components of athleticism, resulting in a better path to superior athleticism for all sports.

  • Kinesthetic Differentiation – The ability to discern subtle changes that involve muscle feelings and body motions. EX: Sense changes in force production needed to shoot a layup or 3 pointers in basketball.
  • Movement Adequacy – The ability to modulate intensity of effort to optimize both effectiveness and efficiency of a motor task. EX: Accurately assessing how much effort it takes to throw a ball a certain distance and the ability to adjust that effort accurately if/when the weight of the object, distance, or position from where the throw takes place is changed.
  • Balance- The stability of the center-of-mass or physical equilibrium produced by even distribution of weight on each side of the vertical axis of the body. EX: A gymnast walking on a balance beam from one end to the other without falling off.
  • Spatial orientation- The ability to determine body or joint system position in space via combined inputs from the central and peripheral sensory systems. EX: Basketball player dribbling baseline, with eyes up and looking to pass while not stepping out of bounds.
  • Rhythm – Ability to move to a certain cadence or pattern. EX: Athlete jumping to a certain rhythm or cadence.
  • Reaction– The ability to reach or respond quickly to what is seen, heard or felt. EX: Track athlete in the blocks waiting to start the race. The athlete is listening for the gunshot to react and start sprinting.

HIGH SCHOOL PREP (HSP) (12-14 YEARS)

Transition phase! This program takes advantage of the growth spurt and natural changes of an athlete’s body. Very important period in which if you do “little kid” training, you get nothing but if you do “big kid” training you get hurt. They can play up but training them age appropriately is very important.

  • 1, 2 or 3 times per week

Focus:

We focus on an overall balanced athletic development training approach. Prepping you for the techniques of the weight room required for success at the high school level. We also work on developing flexibility to combat physical growth issues, as well as enhancing speed, strength, power, agility & stamina.

COLLEGE PREP (CP) (15-18 YEARS)

Competition phase! Athletes must stand out from the crowd, so they can’t do what everyone else is doing. At this stage metrics and on the field/court performance is important as they compete for starting positions and scholarships.

  • 1, 2 or 3 times per week
  • Max athletes per class: 10

Inclusions:

  • Evaluation

Focus:

In this program we focus on strength and speed while also training the other athletic qualities. Many athletes are not focusing on development anymore, instead focusing on competition readiness, but they need to remain focused on development to reach their full potential.

NEXTGEN ELITE (AGES 14-18)

Geared towards the youth athlete looking for a highly specialized training program. This program provides a training experience similar to our professional and elite athlete programs.

  • 90-minute training session
  • 3 sessions per week
  • Max athletes per group: 6
  • Program available year-round

Inclusions:

  • Functional Movement Screen – used to identify previous injury history and assess athlete’s quality of movement (Y-Balance/FMS)
  • Performance Evaluation – pre and post evaluation to measure performance improvements. (1st and last week)
  • Physical Therapy Support – services available to athletes delivered by on-site medical team, additional cost applies
  • Performance Consultation – private sit down with coach to goal set and structure training plan
  • Performance Output Document

SPEED SCHOOL (14-18 YEARS)

Designed to train athletes for any sport in the techniques and mechanics of linear speed.

Details:

  • 1.5 hour session
  • 1 time each week – Saturday’s
  • Max athletes per class: 12

Focus:

Focuses specifically on improving acceleration and maximum velocity. Athletes will learn the appropriate movement patterns & technique necessary to have a more explosive first step and improve straight-ahead acceleration and top end speed.

SPEED, AGILITY AND STRENGTH SCHOOL (6-18 YEARS)

The Evaluation helps us personalize the training. Athletes come in with a goal and the evaluations allow us to determine limiting factors to be eliminated and opportunities to be taken advantage of while developing the most appropriate and individualized program for the athlete.

Details:

  • Every athlete who signs up for an MJP program will receive an initial and progress evaluation.
  • The athlete will go through their initial evaluation before the start of their first training session and after their last training session of the program that was purchased.

Measurements:

  • Movement
    Efficiency (Functional Movement Screen and Y Balance)
  • Body Composition
  • Speed
  • Power

Focus:

The focus of the MJP Evaluation is to evaluate the athlete in areas of structural, functional and performance testing. Within these evaluations, MJP is able to point out:

  • Performance limiters
  • Injury risk
  • Quality of movement

Price: P5000.00 per athlete

INTRASESSION DATA GRABS

Intrasession data grabs are mid program evaluations which keep track of the progress of the athlete. This allows the coach to make any necessary adjustments to the athlete’s program. These data grabs are built into the training session and will be captured by the coach every 2 weeks.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports provide an after-program status report on the training progress of the athlete. The report includes:

  • Quantitative and objective analysis of speed, power, and agility.
  • Qualitative and subjective analysis of movement quality, efficiency of movement, and technique.

This report will be sent to the parent within 7 days of the last training session with the goal of the athlete to continue training.
